Private boat tours of the Bay of Kotor, from Kotor itself

The Bay of Kotor is one of the most photographed coastlines in Europe — a UNESCO World Heritage site of medieval walled towns, baroque palaces, dramatic mountain walls dropping straight into the sea, and a series of small islands and sea caves that you cannot reach by road. The only way to see all of it is from the water.

We run private speedboat tours from Kotor on a single 2024 Atlantic Marine 670 Open with a Yamaha 150 HP engine, comfortable cushioned seating for up to 8 guests, bimini sun cover, and life jackets in all sizes (adult and child). Every tour is private — you book the whole boat, not a seat. Your group, your captain, your pace.

We have been operating in Boka Bay since 2023 and we book directly — no Viator commission, no Klook markup, no aggregator booking fee. WhatsApp is the fastest way to reach us and confirm a tour, usually within minutes during operating hours (08:00–20:00, April through October).

Why book a Kotor boat tour direct (not via Viator/Klook)

Every aggregator (Viator, GetYourGuide, Klook, Civitatis) takes a commission of 20–30% from the operator on every booking. That cost ends up in the price you pay. Booking direct on this site costs the same as the operator margin, not the platform's — typically 20–30% less than the same tour on Viator.

You also get faster confirmation (we reply on WhatsApp in minutes, not the platform's 24-hour SLA), and you can change the route on the day without going back through customer support. Cash on the day, no card, no prepayment.

What you see on a boat tour from Kotor

The bay splits into two parts — the sheltered inner bay (Perast, Risan, Kotor itself) and the open outer bay (Tivat, Herceg Novi, Mamula, Blue Cave). Every full tour visits both. Short tours stay in one half.

Perast & Our Lady of the Rocks

A baroque village frozen in time, opposite the only man-made island in the Adriatic. The church on the island has 68 paintings by Tripo Kokolja and a small museum of votive offerings from sailors. Inner bay, calm water, 20 minutes from Kotor.

Blue Cave (Plava Špilja)

A natural sea cave on the open Adriatic coast where sunlight reflects off the white limestone floor and turns the water inside an electric blue. Swimming inside is allowed and is the highlight of any tour that reaches it.

Mamula Island fortress

A 19th-century Austro-Hungarian fortress on a small island at the entrance to the bay. Recently restored as a hotel. We pass close enough for photos but don't land.

Yugoslav Submarine Tunnel

A Cold War submarine pen carved into the cliff face. The boat takes you inside the tunnel mouth — concrete, dripping rock, dramatic acoustics. A 5-minute stop, but a memorable one.

Žanjic Beach

One of the most beautiful pebble beaches on the Adriatic. White pebbles, turquoise water, beach bars under pine trees. The 5h and 6h tours include a 1-hour stop here for swimming and lunch.

Floating shellfish farm

A family-run mussel and oyster farm in Boka Bay. Eat fresh from the water on a wooden platform — the seafood tour is built around this stop. Local wine is sold on the platform.

Frequently asked questions about boat tours from Kotor

How much does a private boat tour from Kotor cost?

Our private boat tours from Kotor start at €150 per boat for the 2-hour Perast & Our Lady of the Rocks route, and go up to €480 per boat for the 6-hour full bay tour. Prices are per boat (up to 8 guests), not per person, so a group of 6 pays the same as a couple. Cash on the day, no advance deposit, no aggregator commission.

How long should a boat tour from Kotor be?

For a quick highlight reel: 2 hours (Perast & Our Lady of the Rocks). For the Blue Cave: minimum 3 hours. For a proper beach stop included: 5 hours. For "I want to see everything": the 6-hour full bay tour. If you only have one day in Kotor and want the whole bay experience, we recommend the 5-hour Beach & Cave Explorer.

When is the best time of year for boat tours in Kotor?

The sea is warm enough for swimming from mid-May through October. Peak season is July–August (warm water, busy bay, advance booking essential). June and September are the sweet spot — warm water, much fewer crowds at Our Lady of the Rocks and the Blue Cave, easier same-day availability. May and October are great for sightseeing tours where swimming is optional.

What time of day should I book a boat tour from Kotor?

Depends on the tour. For Blue Cave tours, morning between 09:00–11:00 is ideal — the cave glows brightest with morning sunlight. For Perast and Our Lady of the Rocks, afternoon and golden hour are stunning. For full-day tours, we start at 09:00–10:00 and finish around sunset. If you only care about photos and not crowds, sunrise tours are unbeatable.

Is a private boat tour better than a group tour from Kotor?

Private means: your boat, your group only, no strangers, no fixed schedule, swim breaks when you want, route change on the fly, your captain knows you by name by the end. Group tours are cheaper per person but you share a 30-seat boat with strangers, follow a tight schedule, and queue at every stop. For couples, families, and small groups (up to 8), private is usually only slightly more expensive total and is a dramatically better experience.

Do I need to swim well to do a boat tour from Kotor?

No. Swimming is optional on every tour. The Blue Cave is the only stop where most people get in the water, but you can also just watch from the boat — the cave is more about the glowing blue light than the swim. We carry life jackets in all sizes including child fits.

Where does the boat depart from?

We pick up from any safe dock in the Bay of Kotor — Kotor old town, Prčanj, Dobrota, Muo, Tivat (Porto Montenegro), and Herceg Novi or Risan on request. Tell us where you are staying and we will name the closest pickup point. No transfer to a different city required.

How many guests can the boat take?

Up to 8 guests on our Atlantic Marine 670 Open (2024). Comfortable seating for 6 with two extra spots on padded benches. We welcome children from 2 years and up — child-size life jackets provided.

What should we bring on a boat tour?

Sunscreen and sunglasses always. Swimwear and a towel if you plan to swim. A light jacket for spring/autumn morning departures. Camera or phone — there are 50 photo opportunities on any tour. Cash for the captain after the tour, plus €5 per person if you enter the Our Lady of the Rocks church.

Can we customise the tour route?

Yes. The published tours are the most-requested itineraries, but every booking is private — if you want a longer beach stop, a sunset return, a wine break in Perast, or to skip Mamula in favour of a different swim spot, tell your captain and the route changes. The price is the same.
